King Solomon Object Bible Lessons

King Solomon is one of the best known kings in the Bible. He was rich and wise and had everything a human could desire. What can we learn from him? Here are some bible object lessons to share with kids:

1. Solomon’s Riches vs. True Treasure:

An object lesson using a gold crown, fake coins/costume jewelry, and a hidden Bible inside to show that wisdom and knowing God are worth more than physical wealth.

The Focus: Solomon’s incredible wealth vs. why it ultimately didn’t satisfy him.

The Objects: A beautifully decorated “gold” crown (shiny plastic or cardboard covered in foil), a pile of play money / costume jewelry, and a dark cloth or garbage bag.

The Scripture: 1 Kings 10:14-29

The Lesson:

  1. Show the children the crown and the treasure. Read about the massive amount of gold Solomon received yearly and how even his drinking cups were solid gold.
  2. Pile the treasure around the crown, making it look spectacular. Ask the kids if they think this wealth made Solomon permanently happy.
  3. Riches can be used up, stolen or disappear. Cover the entire pile with the dark cloth. Read Ecclesiastes 2:11, where an older Solomon looks back at all his immense wealth and calls it “vanity” or “a chasing after the wind.”
  4. Bring out a Bible and place it on top of the cloth (which remained untouched).

The Takeaway: Riches fade and cannot satisfy our hearts. Solomon had everything the world could offer, but learned that the fear of the Lord is the only thing that truly lasts.

The Queen of Sheba’s Test:

An object lesson using a box and a hidden object to demonstrate how she came to test Solomon with hard questions, showing kids that it’s okay to bring our hardest questions to God.

The Focus: The Queen coming to test Solomon with hard questions, and how we can bring our questions to God.

The Scripture: 1 Kings 10:1-13

The Objects: A sealed, opaque box containing something heavy/unusual (like a massive rock or an intricate puzzle), a magnifying glass, and a Bible.

The Lesson:

  1. Shake the box. Tell the kids that the Queen of Sheba heard incredible rumors about Solomon’s wisdom, but she didn’t just take people’s word for it – she came to test him with hard riddles and questions to see if the rumors were true.
  2. Pass the box around and let them try to guess what’s inside using the magnifying glass or by asking you “hard questions” about it.
  3. Open the box to reveal the answer.
  4. Read how Solomon answered every single one of her questions, leaving her breathless, leading her to praise the Lord.

The Takeaway: The Queen of Sheba sought out the truth with all her heart. In the same way, we don’t have to guess about life or hide our hard questions; we can bring them straight to God and receive answers through His Word.
