This is the courses my teens used in their Gr 10 and 11 years for Bible. It counted a 0.5 credit per year, as an elective for the American Homeschool Diploma. If you choose to, you could combine the two years into one for a full credit, however the work might be too advanced or too much for an average high school student to grasp and gain the most in one year, therefor I split it up.
In this course the student learns about the Bible and biblical principles and how to apply it in their life and the circumstances they will face in their life. It aims to guide the student to think critically about their behavior, actions and thinking patterns and how their belief system affects the relationships in their lives and their own wellbeing.
Our resources:
We started every day with the Daily Devotions from AWMI, which we used as a discussion point to some interesting and important topics.
As the main resource we used Terradez Ministries’s Power Academy, an online Bible course. The student will have to open a free account with them to access the materials, as well as to keep track of their progress through the video-lessons and tests. We used Modules 1-7 for the first year (Gr 10) and Modules 8-21 for the second year (Gr 11).
For Parents
To be able to claim a 0.5 credit for the AHD under the umbrella school we use, the child should work a minimum of 75 hours on the course in one year. Our time is calculated as follow:
For Gr 10:
For Gr 11:
For each term (4 terms per year) I added an assignment for my teens to write a report on what they learned and how they applied it to their lives. We used this mark along with the test marks in Power Academy for a semester and final grade. It is calculated as follows: 4xWriting assignments (50%) + average on all Power Academy tests (50%) = Year Grade.
In general I use a Google sheet to keep track of the my children’s grades and work, for all their subjects. I also give my student the link to their specific sheet for them to add in the grades they get, and I just check up on them.
For this Bible course I simply set up a sheet for the subject, with the subject details at the top (i.e. Bible 2026), indicating fields for the subject, student, year, final grade/mark, credit, total time spent, and curriculum resources. Below that, I added the report fields for each module (Grade 10: modules 1-7 and Grade 11: modules 8-21), with columns for the module name, completed, and the module grade (the average of all tests in the module). Below the modules I added the fields for the four essays.
For the essays I opened a Google document for my child to work in and sent them the link. By the end of the year there had to be 4 essays containing information on the work they learned about, some scriptures that was important to them, as well as what they learned and how it impacted/changed their lives. I also supplied them with a personal notebook to take notes during their lessons to help them when writing their essays.
You might want your children to finish their essays in a book or on paper and that is just fine too.
