High School Bible Course Year 1

I created this high school Bible course for our own family, by pulling together various resources, structuring them in a schedule, adding basic assignments and a grading method. I realise that many Afrikaans homeschoolers would love to have an Afrikaans resource for Bible teaching, unfortunately the resources we use in this course are all in English. Maybe in the future I will find good Afrikaans resources for this purpose, but for now I do allow my children to complete their assignments in Afrikaans even though we use the English resources.

This course should cover about 0.5 Elective Credits in the subject Bible, for the American Highschool Diploma. If you spend 2 and a half hours on it each lesson/week, you would have finished 80 hours of work for the 32 lessons/weeks.

In this course we will use the following resources:

• AWMI Daily Devotions
• Audio teaching set “Who Jesus is” by Terradez Ministries (Alternatively use this option: free version)
• Book: Lessons from David by Andrew Wommack
• Youtube playlist video lessons: Lessons From David by Andrew Wommack (25 videos @28:31 each)
• Youtube playlist video lessons: Spirit, Soul, and Body by Andrew Wommack (20 videos @28:31 each)
• The Bible – any translation preferred (even Afrikaans), I will link to the NKJV.

(Note: you should be able to complete the course without the book, “Lessons from David”, as we do also watch the videos, but your hours will be less and might impact the AHD credit that can be awarded. Alternatively you could supplement with an additional resource [about 10-11 hours] to fill up the required hours.)

For parent/teacher: Each week/lesson the student must complete an assignment reflecting what they learned and their insight/understanding of the work covered. If a writing assignment is not in the style of the learner they can record a video or audio for this purpose, adjust the weekly assignment to suite the student’s abilities. You may mark the assignments in anyway you seem fit, here is some indication on what we do when marking the weekly assignments:

• Each individual writing assignment is graded on display of the following, out of a mark of 100:
• Information about the topic (mark out of 50)
• Opinion/insights gained through the lesson (mark out of 40)
• Logical order and sense (Is the paragraph making sense and completed in good character?) (mark out of 10)
• At the end of the course, or semester, add the marks together and divide it by the amount of assignments to get your year or semester mark.

You will need a pen and notebook to take notes on everything you learn, including scripture verses. You will use these to complete your weekly assignments which has to be handed in and will be graded. There isn’t any test for this course, but your grade will be accumulated throughout this course, so be sure to hand in your assignments.

Note: keep all your assignments together in a file or folder. At the end of the year you will pick out your best ones to add to your portfolio.

A testimony is telling how you came to believe in Jesus and started to follow Him or to tell of some great experience you lived that proclaim God’s goodness in your life. During the following weeks think about such an event in your life and practice giving your testimony to friends and family. For the last lesson/week of this course you will be required to give your own testimony.
